Call of Duty 4 on Steam?

If i want to purchase call of duty 4 do i have to use steam with it or can i play it online just by itself b/c everywhere i look it is associated with steam and i do not mind steam but i would rather not use call of duty with it

CoD4 has been out since Tuesday. It will be released through steam next Monday. I would imagine people already playing it without steam right now.
I guess you have your reasons not to use it with steam.
I'll be getting it through steam to make sure it always up to date and patched automatically...

good point...steam is very successful at always keeping your game up to date and if u can use the friends list like counterstrike i guess it will be pretty awesome

COD 4 does not rely on Steam at all. It is simply available on Steam along with a number of other games developed by studios other than Valve (creator of Steam). I bought COD 2 on Steam.
