Video Perfomance - ain't what it used to be...

hi,

i got a new mobo a couple months back and since then I have noticed one of the strangest things happening: win2k gives me better video perfomance than win98!

I mostly play back Divx files on my machine and it used to be nice and smooth in win98 before, but now it all comes out chunky. Same with the OpenGL screensavers. But in win2k it works just fine.

i have an Award BIOS and was wondering if there are any settings that slow down the video frame rate or improve(which is the goal).

I also have an old i740 card - would u have any suggestions for the decent upgrade - that is, without overpaying too much and still being able to play some of the new games(sounds like an impossible combination).

thanx for reading this...

ATI Radeon LE 32Mb DDR. They are cheap, good for gaming, and have hardware DVD decoding.

That's a pretty common thing actually . I have a Voodoo5, and get much better performance in Win2k as well. Less frames per sec by about 10, but ZERO dropped, it's smooth as a baby's behind.

Bang for the buck, the Radeon 32 meg cards are tough to beat. Best image quality there is, and under 100 dollars.

You ever heard of a guy named Roy D. Mercer, Hal? You've got to check him out! He's hilarious!

That server's password protected.

I had my "A" game all polished up and everything! Pity.

Doh! We had a match on it last night and haven't changed the pass back.

We'll have to do this at a later date . Stop by sometime and play man, #[vs] on enterthegame.
