Game bottleneck or.....

After reading several reviews about Microsoft Flight Sim X and what the minimum requirements were for the game I decided to try the demo out to see how it did.

I should also mention that the main complaint about this game was low frame rates but this was supposedly attributed to older machines or lower end PC's. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't say what you need in a PC to achieve higher frame rates.

After using FRAPS while running this demo the best my PC could do was 15 fps. The other flight sim that I run is the 2007 version of WAR BIRDS III that 99.9% of the time I get 60 fps. The lowest its been was 15 fps. which only happens once in a while and lasts a couple of seconds. The highest FPS was 63.

BTW, most of the time the video settings were on high. Has anyone else had experienced this problem with Flight Sim X ?

My current CPU is an Athlon 64 2.4 Ghz 4000+ San Diego and the video card is an Evga GeForce 7950GT KO.

Thanks,

CI

I have the temptation to say that FSX was poorly written. My PC actually did quite well on the demo, which was encouraging. Real game, however, runs like a slideshow. Granted, the game has a lot of things to generate, but even when the visuals are less than stellar, I still found quite low framerates. Here is the funky part:

I have heard stories of computers far superior to mine running this game incredibly poorly, and laptops with less than half the power of my box running it quite well. I've since given up on FSX until I figure out what the heck is going on. For reference, here is my system spec:

AMD X2 4200+
Asus M2N4-SLI
eVGA GeForce 7600GS
2 gigs Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
