Hi!
I've just got new computers for our school with the following config: P133 systemboard with everything onboard...including: TNT2 aladdin 32 mo video card AGP Celeron 633 processor So, i thought we would be able to play unreal tournament with at least a 800 x 600 resolution...urgh... I've installed both 436 patch for UT and new Nvidia video drivers And i'm still stuck with bad graphics (300 x 200 software mode...) So i tried to go in the motherboard. Put the shared memory to 32 mo and assured myself that the video card was on AGP. Done. But this is still crappy and my students are begging me to kill 'em soon ![]() I have to do this! Anybody with a clue?! Thx! |

Hmm, UT is very, very hungry for memory and is very CPU speed dependent.
You want atleast 196 meg really, and a Pentium class CPU. You must shut down the onbard video. You could try going into the game console, press the "~" key in game and type preferences, now go to d3d rendering. Now turn Vsinc to false, this should pick up FPS, also by setting detail texures to true will pick up the graphics very nicley but may slow the game down. Also, use low sound quality. For higher FPS, turn off shinny surfaces, detail actors and texures and Vsinc. For better graphics, reverse. Make sure Vsic is off also in the video cards set up options. You could also get the 12.90 det drivers for the card, they may help. Get them at Nvidia.com and then go to archives for the files, they should be there. Also try and see if you can get any new drivers for the MOBO. Shut down all open programmes bar explorer. ( press Ctrl, alt, del to bring up running programme window. Hope this helps. |

Hi Rbomb,
From what you said, I gather the TNT2 Aladdin is onboard, so disabling it is not an option. How much Ram do these PCs have? I don't think you've set it up to use Direct 3D. Try reinstalling UT on one of the PCs on top of the existing installation. Just reload it on top of itself. After installation and rebooting the PC, start the game. It will detect 3D Video Devices. After detection, if it just shows "Software Rendering" then click on the circle at the bottom right of the box "Show All Devices". That will bring up a list supported 3D Devices. Highlight and leftclick on "Direct 3D". You will get a warning that it might not work but just click next and run the game. Hopefully you will get better results and be able to change resolutions and graphic preferences within the game. UT ran very well on my P2450 with a TNT 32MB Ultra and 128Mb of PC100 Ram. But to get really good performance, you need dedicated PCI or AGP cards. Onboard video just doesn't give good results. Is there any funds left to buy Geoforce2mxs or Radeons? They don't have to be top of the range models to get UT or Counterstrike running. Any way see if reinstalling the game and redoing setup works. Last edited by mike breck; 10-18-2001 at 05:35 PM. |
