SecuROM how you vex me
I got Crysis for Christmas. I put it in my Lite-On DVD RW drive. It was one of the newest ones when I got it 4 months ago with a SATA connection. The drive starts spinning like it is supposed to and then *CLICK* *CLICK* *CLICK* then more spinning. It did this for about 15 seconds before I freaked and put it in my sony drive that is an IDE connection and it installs fine.
I then proceeded to try and play the game. No dice. I get an error that says that I need to put the proper disc in drive E: The drive that wouldn't read the disc. So after cursing the gods for my luck I thought what the hey and put the disc back in the lite-on drive. It did the spinning and clicking for 30 seconds and then the game launched. I did some digging and apparently SecuROM does not like the firmware on lite-on and samsung drives. The game works and launches off the lite-on drive after spinning and clicking. It will not work for some reason off the sony drive at all. Is the spinning and clicking going to wear out or destroy my drive?

If it's abnormal noised it's making, then yes, it could very well damage the drive. I take it this is the only time it makes this weird noise(s)?

Yes it is the only time it makes the noise. My other new games work so far. I haven't installed COD4 yet. ::Crossing Fingers::

Sounds like the read head is bouncing around trying to find those "bad" sectors so common in copy protection. Good Luck!

SecuROM, the new Starforce??
I see another game joining Bioshock in the list of games I won't be buying.
