No how; no way unless Sony decides otherwise.

You need the HDMI one I believe. I know that there are DVI to HDMI converter thingy, but not sure about VGA.

Seem like people are catching on the PS3

1. Yes, you must plug it at least once to update the firmware on the machine. Then you can setup Wifi if you have wireless access, otherwise, leave it plugged in.
2. As the others have said, VGA is not an option. The PS3 has HDMI (no included cable) and what they call the "AV Multi-out" which connects to the PS3 and has composite cables for your TV (the red/white/yellow connectors).

Couldn't someone use an HDMI to DVI converter cable and stick a VGA D-Sub adaptor on the end?

http://www.optimization-world.com/de...prodid/56.html (VGA to DVI)

http://www.optimization-world.com/details/prodid/8.html (DVI to HDMI)

I know that AMD lives in england, I just pulled these up for reference.

I don't know if the Euro version of PS3 is the exact same... but my PS3 fussed when I converted the HDMI to DVI. Never could get a video signal. My buddy bought one as well and ran into the same prob. I use the HD component out option with my 48" wide screen and looks great at 1080i. I can't imagine why anyone would want to play on a small monitor. We've got a 32" at work and I hook up to it often... it just isn't the same AT ALL.

I play my xbox 360 via the VGA adapter on my 19" LCD computer monitor.

I wish I could buy a big screen....

this is because the PS3 is subject to HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection). Unless your monitor supports HDCP (which very few do right now) you are not going to get a video signal.
