Let's be careful where this thread goes - demos, freeware, or shareware only, please, no commercial software.

I don't know how advanced of a game you're looking for, but I've always had fun playing TetriNET (freeware) over LAN networks (especially at school
).

Counter Strike has a free version for you to download. As far as I know it's a legitimate shareware. My buddy downloaded it after I bought the retail version. As far as I can tell there is no restrictions or limitations. The only thing is when you upgrade versions and maps the shareware must use the shareware patches instead of the retail patches. We've been shootin and scootin for months now and even went through an upgrade with no hitches. If you search under Counter Stike you will find 100s of sites to get the game.

Counter Strike is a free software modification for the game Half-Life that came out around a year ago. It was developed by a team of individuals who had no intention of getting paid. They did it for their own enjoyment and they did it so well that Valve (the company that wrote the game Half-Life) put them on their payroll and added this mod to a cd of Half-Life and began selling it in stores (this is probably the one that you bought).
