XBox 360 - PC network and shared internet?
So I'm here with my 360 and my PC with an ethernet cable run between them. My PC is connected through a wireless adapter to a wireless router in another room. I'd love to do the media sharing that I keep reading about, and I also want to share the internet connection in order to use the PC like a giant wireless adapter for my 360. But I can't get it to work.
I've tried manually setting the network info for the 360, bridging the two connections, etc. I've looked in several places trying to figure out the problem, including the XBox support site. Nothing has been very helpful so far. Everything I've read has the first step as allowing others to share the internet connection via a checkbox in the properties of the conncection. This seems to be my first problem. The wireless connection to the router doesn't have that particular checkbox at all. I'm using XP Home SP2. ![]() I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks for looking.

You'll want to look into how to setup ICS (internet connection sharing).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126 On the ethernet connection, you'll need to set the IP address manually. 10.10.10.1 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0 would be fine. Then on the XBox, you'll also have to set the IP address manually: 10.10.10.2, a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 10.10.10.1 (this IP addressing scheme is just an example. I think the KB article gives 192.168.0.x as a scheme).

That's the problem. When I try to enable ICS - through the only connection of the two that even has the option (see thumbnail above) - I get the error "RPC server is unavailable."
I could be way wrong, but I think the 1394 connection represents the cable between the 360 and the PC, which isn't the connection that needs ICS enabled on it anyway. ![]() Edit: Quite a few topics about this in the old internet wasteland, but nothing that seems to shed light on my particular problem. I'd pony up for the 360's wireless adapter if I thought it'd simplify things, but then I'd still have the problem of how to do the media sharing. do you have windows media player 11. if not download it.
install it. then open it up. click on library, then media sharing. when the dialog box opens, click on the share my media to box. the 360 should be showing. i didnt have to do all that media sharing stuff to get mine to stream music from my pc to 360

The 1394 connection is firewire. What are you using to connect the two? I had assumed CAT5.

Yes, definitely cat5. I don't have anything with firewire hooked up to the computer.
But, I broke down and ordered the 360 wireless adapter from Newegg today.
