NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 problem with NHL 2001

I'm trying to solve a problem for a friend. His NHL 2001 (EA Sports) game locks up a few minutes after it starts. He has a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 video card (Gateway) and I downloaded the 21.83 drivers from NVIDIAs site. It appears that they install but then when it restarts the old nvdisp.drv ver 4.12.01.0369 is listed. dxdiag says it's not certified, which is what Gateway told him the problem is. Does anyone know why the drivers won't install? Does Gateway block that somehow? Can I just get him a new card or does Gateway have a proprietary motherboard????? Please help. I've already tried all the basic troubleshooting (change display settings, stop all processes except systray and exporer, etc.)

Did you change to the standard VGA driver and uninstall the original drivers first?

Hi madmom,

As glc said you must uninstall the old drivers first. You can follow the procedure here

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=18832

Driver cetification just means means the driver has gone through a series of tests to show they function well. This can either be done by Microsoft or by some card manufacturers. For example, WHQL drivers are Microsoft tested and approved.
However, because it takes Microsoft and manufacturers sooo looong to certify drivers most people go with Reference Drivers from NVidia.
So I wouldn't worry about a driver or drivers being uncertified.
Your problem is more likely due to not uninstalling the old drivers completely.

Anyway, let us know how you get on.

glc and Mike,

No - I didn't uninstall the originals, but I will give that a try. Thanks!
