Legallity Question

I physically own Crysis. I have the DVD, the box, the manuel, the whole nine yards. I also have a lite-on drive that hates only this game. It clicks and tocs and whirs at me for about 2 minutes before loading teh game. I am afraid it will ruin my drive. Is downloading and installing a no cd patch illegal even though I own the game?

If you have the game, I don't see why it would be illegal.

OK, it's dicey

The answer is yes and no.
Developers have been known to release no cd cracks to deal with problems with their games or to recommend cracks already out.

A quick trip over to the game's forum may secure you the developers blessings and an update on the best version for your use.
Just make sure you explain.

The Digital Rights Management (DRM) has to be one of the the worse pieces of legislation to be passed and I haven personally sent a bunch of emails to my Senator over the years on this subject to no avail yet. I agree with Pam to an extent, but I wouldn't contact the developers for all they're going to say is they're not responsible for anything that happens if you use a crack and that they don't recommend it. In my opinion if you own it you be able to do what you want to it (within reason of course). Just my .02 cents

The intent is to stop piracy. Your not selling or giving away copies to anyone therefore there is no piracy. No worries in my opinion.

Sometimes you're prohibited from playing online on certain servers when you have cracks applied, but other than that you ought to be fine. Like you said, since you own the game you have a legitimate excuse if anyone were to say anything.
