Mario Kart Wii
I think I might be turning into a Wii Fan boy. I really don't care that the graphics are not as next gen as the x box or ps3. The games are just darn fun. I find that since getting burned out on the online idiocy of people that get too competitive going and playing games like smash brothers brawl and mario kart wii are very refreshing. The online play is there but the text, and vocie is not so you do not have to listen to the negative trash talk.
With MKW I can now play online with my wife. She enjoys the game, and it has a 2 person online mode where 2 people on one console play others over nintendos wi fi network. Her score does not effect mine, so we can sit there and have fun and I can still keep that little bit of competitiveness. I love the game. I love the tracks. I still have yet to get the feel of the wheel, but I pick it up every now and then. I normally use the GameCube controller just because it is much easier. I would recommend this game to any casual gamer or race game fan.

I've noticed that Nintendo usually has the more enjoyable games out of all the consoles. Seems like it's been that way for years, and that's what really keeps them in business.

I guess it just depends on what type of experience you are looking to have. Nintendo's games are always aimed at a younger or broader audience. They tend to be easier to pick up and play, quick to have fun but at the same time very shallow, they just do not have much depth. That is great for people that are not use to using complicated controllers, complicated gameplay, or have time for 5 hour marathons. This tends to be the reason older/hardcore gamers go for the PS3/360/PC, the games have more depth. Hardcore gamers want the online social interaction and depth of character building which is why WoW is such a huge success. The same reason XBL and PSN are such big console features. I would take a game with alot of depth like Oblivion over a wii game most of the time, it's just the type of gamer I am. I'm sure my wife would have a really good time playing wii too. Thats my take...
I need to pick up a wii, I would get Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart for sure!

There are games with depth on the wii. Zelda and Okami to name two. As far as difficulty goes maybe I just suck but you get into the 100cc and 150cc games in Mario Kart and the AI gets stupidly intellegent and hard to beat.

I saw 2 guys at walmart yesterday buy 2 copies of mario kart and 4 of the steering wheel attachments, looked like they were getting ready for a good time. Have you gotten use to using the wheel?
;I played Okami on ps2, great game, amazing graphics, story was a bit wonky but definitely unique. I'd like to play through Zelda for sure! Wii Fit looks interesting to me, I could stand to lose a few pounds lol. |

Wii games are for groups of people to pick up have fun with. Whenever my friends and I get together to play games, it's always some mutliplayer designed wii game like Super Smash Bros. or Warioware.

I have used the wheel. I personally hate it. My wife on the other hand loves it. Even when she was playing with the controller she would try and "steer" so I told her to use the wheel. to me it just seems unresponsive and unwieldy. If you are just playing the 50cc and 100cc races or against friends it is fun and usable. if you are playing the time trials and online I would suggest the GCN controler, BUT i get stomped online by people using the wheel so really its all just up in the air. I imagine if you have never played a mario kart game before you could start out with the wheel and love it.

My friends were making fun of the wheel the other night. It's really just a piece of plastic which your wiimote fits into. I personally did better with the one classic controller we had hooked up.

I played the original Mario Kart and Mario Kart Double Dash for Gamecube. Both were great fun, especially when playing with others. I'd like to play the new Wii Mario Kart but I just cannot justify the expense of buying a Wii, which is more or less a Gamecube with new controllers.
Also, aren't about half of the tracks on the Wii Mario Kart taken from Double Dash (with a few revisions- Peach Beach for instance)? This seems to be a trend with Wii games- just update or repackage old games. Seems like a rip off of sorts. |

I have not played Wii Mario Kart but I have read many places that if you were a fan of Double Dash then you will be truly disappointed because it is nearly the same game. I haven't been able to justify buying a Wii either, I do want to play Zelda but that is about it. None of the casual games really interest me.
