Thumbs up Crysis, here I come

I just picked up Crysis for $19.99 at bestbuy. It's on sale at circuit city, but they were sold out, so I took the ad, and went to BestBuy and got it for the same price.

Think I'll start this game, and just finish STALKER some other time.

For that price, I may have to pick one up!! Still got Bioshock and the Orange Box to play first, though... Thanks for the tip

I still have a few Half-Life games in a sealed box, and still haven't made a dent in STALKER, but I said before that if I found Crysis or BioShock for cheap, then I would get it.

And for $20, I just couldn't pass it up, even though I really can't be spending money now. All Well.

Nice. I bought mines for $30. The graphics and physics in the game are amazing. Online play is fun too!

I absolutely love Crysis. It's the only game in a long time that I paid full price for. I bought it as soon as it was released. The single player campaign is amazing. The sound, the physics, the graphics, and the gameplay are top notch. Multiplayer is great as well... as long as you're in a server without hackers. I don't get why so many hackers were attracted to this game. It really cut down on the number of people playing online.

Is it better to go through Far Cry first? I mean is Crysis like a sequel where I'd benefit from having played Far Cry?

Haven't done Far Cry yet, though I have it in my pile of games to play.

Fry Cry is one of the best PC FPS ever made, probably next to COD4, HL2:E1, and BioShock. I think it's better than Crysis. Crysis is too hard on systems. You gotta have some serious hardware to see its real potential. Far Cry has an awesome story line and the 64-bit patch is adds for a great experience in seanory too.

Stalker was an awesome game too. I liked how the bodies flew around.

I haven't gotten to installing Crysis yet, but was wondering if anyone knows why kind of fps I can expect from 8800gts 640, and on what settings?

Xena,
The story lines are not connected. Do whichever you want first. Both are excellent games. Do whatever you need to to get Vista 64. It does make a nice difference compared to XP 32. Too bad Crysis is such a resource hog though....but you don't get something for nothing. Something has to drive that graphics engine with all the gorgeous graphics in that game and it is not going to be a Pentium 3 with a 6800 card.

I am thinking of going back to Far Cry and this time play the 64 bit version. It was such a good game the first time around.

David

Possibly high at >20 fps.

If I can get 20fps on high, I would be happy. That seems like it would at least be playable.

It is playable but may be choppy at times.

I play on mostly high settings with the system in my signature and it stays smooth for the most part. The only section of the single player campaign I had trouble with was snow. Apparently that taxes a system much more. I had to turn it down to medium to get through that part.

One of the goals of the developer was to push PC technology to the limits. They succeeded. Frankly, I don't think enough developers do this. When a game has to be toned down so that everyone can play on the highest possible settings with their three year old machines those who would like to take advantage of higher end hardware are left in the cold. I'm not on the cutting edge all the time but I love games that push the limits. The key to the immersive experience Crysis offers is largely visual effects. The game looks good on lower settings but it looks spectacular if one has the hardware to run it.

Also you should pick up Assasin's Creed if its on sale as well!

I just started to play it and the graphics and gameplay is quite fun! Though it's repetitive at times though.

That's good to hear.

I'll probably get around to playing this game sometime mid June, so I'll find out for sure then. I'll post back here (if I remember).

My 9600GT (just a bit faster than the G80 8800GTS) at 1280x1024, DX9 all high about 25FPS. But for some reason on the last mission where you have to kill the giant spider thing on the aircraft carrier, if I look at the spider thing FPS goes from 25 to less than 10.

Ok. My monitor only goes to 1680 x 1050 but I'll use dx10.

25 sounds good to me. I can't afford a new video card now.

It does not unfortunately, although the single player experience is more than worth the purchase.

Isn't it that you can only use DX10 in the Very High mode? In that case an 8800GTS 640MB isn't going to get 25FPS at 1680x1050 (not trying to be rude)

I have a list of about 10 games I want to complete this summer, Crysis, Bioshock and the HL series being just a few of that list!

Wasn't sure if you could only get dx10 in very high. If that's the case, then dx9, here I come. LOL

I find the textures in DX10 are a lot better than DX9. It's just not the same once you go DX10.

Actually I'm not sure what kind of system could achieve that.

Is it just me or is it quite challenging in normal mode?

So much easier with godmode

Also, in the ice world, my frames drop from 25-30 fps to 10-15 fps in high settings. Still playable... haha

I like how nothing will play this game smoothly all the way through.
