transfering saved games

Does everyone have the prob I do in that whenever I want to re-install my OS, I can't transfer my game profiles or saved games? It seems that most games save to unusual folders and if it is in my documents, it's never works where all you have to do is transfer that file to the next my documents for it to transfer. Is anyone else annoyed by this or am I doing something wrong?

You need to take note of the file path and some games will require you to recreate the profile folder as well.
If you tell us what games you're playing anyone else playing them can tell you what you need to do or you can do a search on the forums for your games to find out what to do.

I'm just ranting. I normally can do it, but it just bothers me that I have too many games and have to do it differently for each most of the time. Thanks for the tip though

Yup, that's how it's always been. Microsoft and EA tend to hide stuff in my documents, some store them in their respective x:/program files directory. It doesn't hurt to check x:/documents and settings/username/application data and x:/documents and settings/username/local settings.

Steam just annoucned a save game cloud recently, which would store your game save files on their servers. Great idea, but then you're at the mercy of valve.

Just curious, but why (as I read it) do you reinstall so much? I installed XP over Win 98.2 and have never had to re-install, for example...

Indeed. Installing Windows is just marginally more fun than chemotherapy.

If you create an unattented installation CD, it saves a lot of time if you're in the habit of reinstalling frequently.

Personally, I only reinstall if I start having serious problems that I can't fix. Last time I reinstalled XP on my main rig was May 2006--over two years ago.

If you're in the habit of installing and uninstalling a lot of software just to play with it, you might want to think about setting up a virtual machine. Take a look at Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (or Sun VirtualBox if you want to play with linux).
