Gradually dropping FPS in Counterstrike Source

Hey guys I'm not really sure what forum to post this in because it could be a software problem or a hardware problem but I don't know. I think the Gaming forum is as good a place as any because you guys can probably help me get to the root cause of it. Mods feel free to move this to the correct forum.

Anyway when I first built this computer back in April I was getting an average of about 180 fps in Counterstrike Source (on the level de_train btw). The lowest my fps would be was 120 and the highest it would get to about 220. Slowly over time my fps on that same map has dropped. Now my average is about 120 with a max of 180 and it even gets down to 60 sometimes. This is happening on every map I just wanted to show that it isn't something like more complex maps running slower than simple ones. I have made no changes to any of the options in the game nor have I made any major changes to software on my computer.

What do you guys think? Is there a program I can run that will tell me if any of my hardware has a problem?

Windows Vista 64bit
Intel q6600 2.4ghz quad core
ASUS P5K-E mobo
eVGA Geforce 8800 GT
4gb Corsair DDR2 pc2 6400 ram
Seagate 250gb 32mb cache hard drive
Antec 650w power supply
Raidmax Smilodon case

Thanks,

Flint

Defragment you hard drive. Clear temporary files and clean the registry (use CCleaner). And minimise the number of start up items using msconfig.

I would run ccleaner and make sure you dont have any extra programs running in the background while you are playing. I wouldn't do anything to msconfig. There have been some updates to the source engine that could be the root of your problem. 120 FPS is more than good for that game. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You will see that we have about the same system and I get about 120 to 200
