I have never done any computer gaming before, but since I am going to have a new computer built I would like to start gaming on it.

So far I intend that my new computer incorporate the following components:
- ASUS P5Q Premium Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550
- OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX 12V Power supply
- HD 4870X2 2GB Video card
- Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX 16GB memory

I do not want to get involved with overeclocking or water cooling. Accordingly I would like to know in what way my gaming will be affected by not having the overclocking and water cooling features available?

With that setup there would be no need to overclock in order to enjoy today's latest games at acceptable frame rates.

You'll destroy pretty much every game without overclocking. And you can probably play 10 different games at the same time with 16GB memory (lol).

I would like to know from you folks on the forum if you think the Lian Li Mid Tower case model PC-V1010 can keep my new computer cool during gaming without the use of water cooling:

If you're not overclocking, you aren't going to have any problems with cooling.

I haven't looked at that case but you'd better make sure that your video card will fit. That 4870X2 is a HUUUGE card and I know that my 8800GT OC2 barely fits in my mid tower case and your card will be longer than mine. So you'd better check.

why dont you post your budget so we can fine tailor your rig. its alot easiler to choose parts that way, because many different configurations will make satisfactory gaming systems. just as a side note, if you are running everything stock, then you dont need to really worry much about cooling, just make sure the case has some case fans. still, post a budget if you can.

and the 16gb of ram is just a waste of money for just gaming- the software just isnt here yet that can utilize that. and with games, you will be fullscreen, so you should not be too concerned about multi tasking. the only advantage you will get is that you can minimize and maximize a game with minimal lag time, but this really isnt worth the extra money, which can be spent to beef up other parts of your system.

16 gb RAM is waaaay overkill. You won't ever really need more than four, and most gaming rigs run just fine at 2.

Also, you don't necessarily need a quad core. They're much more expensive and most of the time your 2 extra cores will be idle.

But i guess if you have the money... go for it

I'm getting a core 2 duo and studio2lh is right 16 gb RAM is a little overboard.....
