In general, games that come on a DVD or multiple CDs will take some time to install.

But, if that's an SATA drive, make sure the jumpers are set correctly for SATA 3.0, rather than 1.5 (if your motherboard supports it).

Also, if you're doing other things in the background, that will slow it down as well.

If you don't have a high end gaming rig don't try to install crysis because your PC performance will take a spike!!

You do know that Crysis is only really demanding at 1920x1200+, Very High DX10 with 16xAAQ, and that the medium settings are quite easy for hardware to handle and still look good. My desktop rig handles Crysis fine at high details 1280x1024 and even my crappy laptop had it playable on low.

They can and do die. and they can go out piecemeal.

Is it just game disks you have trouble with?
Stick in a music cd and then try a movie to see what happens.
Try transferring a file from a burned disk.

Check the connections to make sure they're tight.

2 mins is a bit of an understatement. As far as I know 20x is the fastest DVD drive available and at that (theoretical) speed, 7gb won't transfer in 2 mins. Installing somehting from DVD is all dependant on the speed of the disc drive, as all other components in a computer far outdo it in speed.

My Lite-On DVD burners don't like my Crysis DVD. When I insert the disc it sits there clicking for about three minutes before anything happens. It also took forever to install. This happens on both of the identical Lite-On drives in my main PC. The NEC drive in my other PC doesn't have any problems. From what I have read, I am not the only Lite-On owner having trouble reading Crysis.
