error getting sku number from registry

I recently installed the sims deluxe on my laptop (this runs on Vista)
I also install the expansion pack makin magic
Later on i purchased other expansion packs
since the sims expansion packs need to be installed in a particular order i uninstalled both makin magic and the sims deluxe
When i attempted to install the programs again in the correct order as soon as i attempted to install sims deluxe i receive the error message

"error getting sku number from register aborting installation"

I have already gone to regedit and deleted all sims files and i have run the sims uninstaller also search my computer for any sims/maxis files and any files related to the sims deluxe and it's expansion packs and removed them also

however i still get the same message... can any one give any further suggestions please
