Okay... I didn't see any prior threads on this... and so I put it to the group. Has anybody played FarCry2... and what do you think? I'm not to happy with it. The gameplay isn't nearly as intense or fun as COD4, the graphics aren't nearly in line w/ Crysis, and the idea of realism has been taken to an extreme. The whole malaria thing is the biggest buzz-kill I've seen in a game in a long time.
I'm kicking myself for paying the full $48 to get it.

I haven't played it but I always watch out for remakes from an original.
Just my 2 cents on it. |

Yeah... (no spoilers... this all comes out in the first five minutes). You arrive in an African nation to kill an arms dealer and get malaria... so every once in a while your screen goes all yellow and you have a malaria attack. So you take pills occasionally and have to run missions to get more pills. It serves no ultimate purpose other than to be a major pain in the rear end.... or at least that's my thought on it.
It's okay as a game, but once you've run your first three or four assignments you seem to have run the entire gambit of what the game offers. In COD4 there was a lot of excitement in that your mission and environment were constantly changing. Oh yeah... and as a former USAF weapons and tactics guy, I can vouch that the AC-130 mission was spot on. I felt like I was watching mission video... though much clearer on the audio. In Crysis... you changed environments and vehicles enough to be really engaging. None of that strikes me in FarCry2. Please take into account though that I'm only about 45% in to the game so far. If you haven't bought it yet... I'd wait until the price comes down to less than $30 at a minimum. |

I was bored with the first Fary Cry. Sure, it looked pretty, but it seemed that was the main/only point of the game.

I love crysis. I never could get through Farcry 1 and I don't intend on 2 unless it comes with a video card. Crytek needs to worry about story and content rather than graphics. They proved that tehy could do graphics now they need plot and excitement. I mean look at the Halo series. When it first came to PC (didnt have an xbox) I was so addicted to that game. I wanted to finish it. Unfortunatley I have yet to "Finish the fight" (play through 2 and 3) as life and other games got in teh way.

I love Halo for the pc when it came out. I just recently received Halo 2 for the pc and an Xbox 360 controller for Windows and it is way better than the first Halo for pc. Can't wait for Halo 3 on the pc! I haven't tried FarCry 2, but I didn't really care for the original FarCry. I do enjoy Crysis and Crysis Warhead very much, though.

I'm thinking now to wait for FarCry 2 to come down in price. I cant count the number of times I have spent 50 bucks on a game only to be disappointed. I think I will be buying Left 4 Dead instead.
I really enjoyed playing Crysis Warhead, almost more than Crysis itself.

I haven't even bothered to get FarCry 2 nor do I intend to. From the reviews I've read, it should Not even be called FarCry. The main character is gone, it's a totally different theme, and is a different style / type of game too. All that combined, and more, did make it disappointing before I even played it....

I think the switch in developer made Far Cry what it is (I don't need to say it). I just don't think Ubisoft does well in this genre of game.

I have FC2 for Playstation 3. The offline mode is good, but I agree the malaria stuff is an unnecessary distraction. I'm kinda dissappointed with online play, very few features and no real clan system (things that should be standard by now). Several features that work great for single-player (such as the ability to heal yourself and upgrade weapons) were also implemented for online play, where they don't quite fit. Especially weapon upgrades: if you're just starting out you are really handicapped, because experienced players will have far more powerful and accurate weapons unlocked and upgraded. Compared with COD4 or Resistance, the online "learning curve" seems rather steep.
I am impressed with the included map editor, the interface is very easy to learn and use, and a newbie could make a nice, playable map in a few hours. But with this comes another problem for online play, hundreds of published map "experiments", with many more every day, pushing some good maps to the bottom of the list where no one ever downloads them. This also splits up the community over many maps. Overall I'm dissappointed with it, I'll finish the offline mode and maybe make a map or two, then it's on to something else...

Games are night and day from each other. I was all hyped up for FC2 but what a let down, should have saved that money for something else like Legendary.

Ultimately, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but there was sooooooo much driving and getting around, and the predictable buddy calling you just after you accept a mission. It was always fun, but got a little repetitive. The map is so detailed and beautiful, though. I wish I had more time to really sit down and explore it all, because I think I'd discover a lot
