Red face BT878 chip Tuner Card CapturinG

Hello everyone ,
The PC i am using is
Pentium 166 CPU (Intel)
TX98 Motherboard (Tomato Board)
16MB RAM
Cirrus Logic 5446 Display Card
and
VDOmate TV Tuner Card from AverMedia
(BT878 chip from BrookTree/ Conexant Fusion)

the maximum frame i can grab using the software
made for my tuner card is 30

i want to record my favourite movies on to my hdd
and the problem is that it does not capture
100% correctly i mean it skips certain parts

i have tried changing paramters for 15bit or 24 bit whatever
and frames from 1 - 30 / with or without audio
in any case the problem is still the same

why cant i record movies 100% correcly full screen
movie perfectly without any cuts
whats the problem with ->?
IS it the problem with display card
or i should upgrade my cpu and ram
or software problem

and also lemme know should i go for anyother software
or use the inbuilt software does it make a difference

thanking you
best regards
bye cu

Hi han,

Our resident video guru is currently unavailable (get well soon, audioyoda!), but I'll take a shot at this.

I may be mistaken, but I think capturing video places an enormous burden on the CPU and other system components. Your system specs, while good 5 years ago, may not be up to what your are asking of it.

You might be able to improve things by adding more RAM (to at least 64 megs, more would be better), a faster hard drive, a better video capture card...but I really don't think you'll get the result you are looking for.

Depending on your motherboard, you might be able to upgrade your CPU, but I really don't know how much faster you could go...maybe up to 233MHz. The fastest Socket 7 CPU I know of is the 550MHz AMD K6-3, but I'm not sure if your board would support it (probably not).

Is buying (or building) a new system with at least a 800MHz (faster would be better) CPU an option for you? If not, would you consider upgrading the motherboard and CPU (and possibly the power supply) for around $200 or so?
