Need help with Radeon VIVO
I'm trying to use the video in feature of my new Radeon VIVO. So far, this is wht happens: I can see video and hear audio when it is recording, but when I try to play back what I recorded using ATI's File Player, there is no video. By that I mean there is not even a blank screen, it is like there is no video output at all, just audio. Also, if I check the setup options in File Player, all the buttons under "Video Size" are greyed out. When I try to play it with WMP 7.1, it tries to download a codec, then says "invalid media specification". The files it is creating are huge .mp2's.
This is how I have it set up: video in using the composite cable that came with the card. Audio in to soundcard using an RCA-to-minijack adapter. IRQ for VGA enabled in BIOS. Card is alone on IRQ11. I've updated WMP, and removed/reinstalled ATI's multimedia center. I'm not trying to copy copy-protected videos, just some home movies. I also tried using the Windows Movie Maker that comes with ME, but it's quality stinks, to put it nicely. Anyone have any suggestions? I've done all I can think of to do! |

This is a shot in the dark, but are you sure .mp2 is a correct file format to capture video? I thought mp2's and mp3's where just audio files. Can you capture them as mpeg or mpg files? Just a guess, but HTH.

To be honest, I really don't know. That's what it defaults to. All of the MPEG options say "MPEG-2". The only other option is AVI, and it says I have 17 minutes of that available on my HDD, lol. I've got almost 5GB free space. That's some really high quality video, but not what I'm looking for. It also looked to me like .mp2 was audio, and .mpg or .mpeg was video, but that's what it recorded as as the default. Like I said, I can see the video on the screen, and I can record it through Windows Movie Maker, but the quality of WMM stinks. The files it recorder were huge, like 10 minutes was 518 megs. Which is ok, if I can find something that will play them. Since they are that big I don't think they are just audio, but I'm honestly just not sure...

Hi Jenni,
I found this post via "search" and it deals with my problem. I recorded a home video just the other day and cannot get file player to play back the mp2. I have a Radeon VIVO also. Did you get this to work? If so, please post or email me. Thanks, AndyM

I found a program called "Elecard MPEG2 player" that did the trick. It made the videos viewable in WMP and everything else, but the aspect ratio was weird in one of the players. But I think the software has its own player now.
