game compatibility with my new rig

just built a new rig,
Asus rampage formula
Intel Q9550 2.8
OCZ Reaper 1066 4x2G
Dual Asus 4870 1G

Have two older games that i still like to play, Age of Mythology 2006 and Mechwarrior Mercenaries 2002.Both installed fine, intro loads and plays but as soon as it ends it shuts my system down. Any suggestions?

If you have Vista try running the games in the XP compatible mode.

Have you looked for the latest patches for the games in question?

What kind of temps are you getting for the video card and processor under load?

Havnt had them under any significant load yet, but burning a cd and gaming online the cpu was running 20C.Though the Nb and Sb were both running hot around 51C, looking into fans for them. No temp probe on the 4870s but i dont think thats enouph to heat them up, Asus 4870 1G with dark knight quad-pipe cooling solution.

Also been having a lot of dialogue error boxes ( ... has encountered a problem and needs to close.) Tried to install nero 8 -error, burning a dvd -error, along with a couple other programs.
Think it might be a problem with windows installation? Service pack 3 downloaded fine and the problem remains.
