VIA and NVIDIA - the new bug

http://www.onlinekosten.de/hardware/artikel/?ID=106&P=1

..... The usage of a GeForce3 in combination with a VIA-chipset causes a performance loss of up to 60% - under Windows 98 / ME and only with the new detonator XP driver.....

Angry Fire VIA & NVIDIA NEW BUG

I thought it was just my system not liking the new Nvidia XP Beta drivers. I'm using a Geforce 2 MX 200 32 Mb & VIA KT133A chipset & I had all sorts of compatability probs plus as you had a massive (at least 50%) drop in framerate. I tried various settings & different games but to no avail- I deleted the drivers and reinstalled the Nvidia 12.83 driver - things are back to norm! Pah!

Yup, I've had my BX for some time on all 3 machines, don't wanna give them up just yet.

Question VisionTek Xtasy 6564 Work with WinXP

I read about the bug problem and the associated fix when combining a GeForce3 and VIA chipset. Wondering if anyone has an EPOX 8KTA3 board with a VisionTek Xtasy 6564 graphics card running satisfactorily. This is a GeForce3 Ti 200 board that sounds pretty good for the price, ie., $199 or less.

I've got an AMD T-Bird 1.33Ghz process with 512MB SDRAM, and a 19" monitor.

I might be picking up the graphics board soon, like Friday, 24 Nov. so E-mail me if you've got a comment.

I may be beating a dead horse but has anyone with a via chipset tried the 4in1 interleave fix?

I have a A7V with a 900 Thunderbird. Using a Geforce Ti 500. I am very pleased with the performance.

This doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
Ah the Intel chipsets!
BX still reins supreme in my eyes. The 815E ain't bad either.

Hey Hal and RJ, I know you guys both have slot 1 P3 800's like I do, what's your CPU temperature normally run? Mine is constantly above 45C, sometimes up to 50C. I'm using the retail HS/fan, with a couple of extra case fans. When I turn on the big fan (120mm in the side panel), it keeps the temp pretty steady at 44-47C, but man is it loud! Should I be worried, or am I just giving myself a headache over nothing?

BTW Jade, most good motherboards use 4 way memory interleave without using that fix.

Jenni,Not being of the Cel,P3 type, I can,t help with the temp, but
as for the 120mm in the side panel, as a case modder all fans are
attached with a slip of cardboard between fan and bolt to assist
in a snug, non-vibrating cooling fan. I guess if you are bored a directional
baffle to said pcu,mtb also cuts down on noise... lol, more useless trivia.
Regards Pot.. gotta luv AMD..
