Tech marches on. A 4770 card is about $100 but another option is coming, a cloud computing deal that streams. Gaming in the cloud at OnLive : http://tinyurl.com/dkrvp2.

Yes there are things to do that don't require an upgrade but you need to decide what your major use of the computer will be. MY graphics card is about like yours and I'm not upgrading till autumn but that means that any new games I buy that I can't run will have to wait till then. On the other hand, I can run anything else, make your choice. |

Pam thought your card was the Geforce 8600 in your first post.
Your 9800 is a fine card and should play anything out there. Enjoy it.

Yes I thought you were talking about an 8600 in one of your rigs.
That card is fine for games. |

It is too technical to discuss in a short post why they would require an 8600 or higher card. I am going to say this as simple as possible.
Even though some of the high end 7 Series cards like the 7900GTX are still brutally powerful they can't process certain new graphics features that even the lowest 8 series card can, if you were to play the game that has these new features and the card can't process them then the game will crash or you may have tearing or other problems.

LOL Up until recently I've had an MX440 in my normal computer and a 6300 (I think) in my laptop, and it's played most of the games I want to play (though obviously not as pretty as other cards). Just got a new computer with a 4850 that should last me a while. That MX440 lasted 7 years and has only just started having problems, pretty impressed with that. With proper care, I haven't had to replace anything in that old comp.
