hey man.
well, first of all... gaming laptops are really expensive. u will need expand ur budget to above 1200$ to play new games. But still can get laptop that capable to perform games in range of 700$ - 1000$. but the result will be disappointing. I experienced it myself. I have Toshiba laptop with following specifications: #Centrino 2 - Core2Due @ 2.1 GHz - 667MHz FSB - 2MB cashe. #3 GB DDR2 RAM @ 667MHz. #ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3470 - 256 DDR VRAM. #HDD 250GB @ 5400 RPM. # Vista HP SP2. although the fact that such specification are good for 800$ laptop, its still weak to run games. I play COD4 on it with Avg. 45 FPS @ 800x600 resolution and half options are OFF. HAWX runs well @ 1024x768 but it really struggle when it the air filled up with smoke! For strategy games it runs good like RA3 @ 1024x768 most options are OFF. Unless ur games are old ones, then its ok. But for most recent games u will get frustrated. Actually, with 1000$ u can build a HD gaming desktop !!!! its pretty cheap and way better than using laptops. Gaming on laptop is real headache specially fixing the Temperature issue. So, still want a gaming laptop?! If so, Asues Laptops are the solution. But they are expensive. PS. u posted Minimum Required Specification, which means by those specification u will launch the game but not playing, in other words, ur game would probably crash or system lock up! Don't expect to play the newer graphics intensive games with the eye candy turned on at playable frame rates with a $1000 laptop.
Minimum system requirements printed on software boxes are VERY optimistic. Realistically, the real requirements are higher. Running software at the minimum system requirements means that it will run, but frustratingly slow. With a $1000 budget, I would buy a gaming console and a half dozen good games.

alienware laptops are overpriced (just as a side note, they're made by dell now)
If you look at dell studio or vostro laptops, they have decent enough hardware in them after some customizations that would be around the $1000-$1200 mark and game fairly well. The XPS machines don't seem to compare very well in terms of price and components. However, you will get a better value by building a gaming desktop than getting a laptop geared towards gaming.

You can look at Alienware but in your budget you won't be able to afford it. Dell makes pretty decent laptops. I have both Dell and Alienware. My Dell XPS M1530 can play COD4, UT 2004 pretty well. I don't know the specs that i'm running.

Just bought an XPS (second-hand, only a year old), and to be honest I preferred my customised Inspiron. Same price for a better (IMO) machine with the Inspiron.
