Fan on AGP card ?

I have read in a recent post that Voodoo Cards need a fan to work properly. Is that true for all AGP video cards (like the 64 mb SDR Radeon ?)
Thanks !

Video cards that need them, come equipped with them from the manufacturer... The only time you need to add one to a card that doesn't come with one new, is when you're overclocking it.

Well, when I got my Viper 770 it didn't include a fan, so i thought it wasn't needed. But one day I touched the heatsink and promptly retired my finger! Man, that was HOT!

So I adapted and old Pentium MMX fan to the heatsink.

Maybe it wasn't needed, but I decided to do it for mental health.

If your Viper wasn't giving you lockups or errors, your addition was unnecessary. Heatsinks are there for a reason, to wick heat away from the components that get hot. The designers did tons of testing I'm sure, to figure out how hot that component got under extreme circumstances and they also figured out that a heatsink was an adequate solution (barring any overclocking attempts by the consumer).

Not as a comment to the original question, I do however suggest that you install or build a card cooler to circulate the hot air away from the dead space around the PCI Cards. This will help to lower your case temps.

Great one to buy
