MMOs?

Been playing WoW since release, but I can't take it anymore. There's not enough room in this forum to spell out my displeasures with that game, so I'm not going to try.

So, anyone playing some good MMOs? I know AoC and WAR didn't end up as well as expected. Should I give either of those a shot or is there anything else floating around out there? This upcoming Aion game looks intriguing, but got to pass the time...

For something different try "Eve" and find out if you have futre as an inter-stellar CEO.

I would also say try EVE.

It has a steep learning curve, but once you get a handle on what there is to do. It can be quite fun. There are many things to do in this game. You can be an Industrialist, Trader, Pirate, the ultimate PVP'r, etc.

POTBS (Pirates of the Burning Sea) wasnt to bad either when I played it.

Guild Wars is awesome. I like EQ2 but if you are not happy with WOW you are not going to enjoy EQ2. Since you have a powerful rig try Vanguard, it is an awesome game. I played it for a while but non of my friends had good enough machines to handle the graphics so I went back to EQ2.

I guess I should spell out my displeasures with WoW so you know what I like. I mostly enjoy raiding, and generally only PvP on the side. That could just be because WoW PvP was so terrible, though. The extreme casual raiding trend of WoW is mostly what has frustrated me. I only play very casually during the summer, though, so right now I'm just looking for an enjoyable leveling experience.

I downloaded the Warhammer trial...haven't had much time to play but it seems very, very similar to wow. Vanguard looks interesting, as does EVE and GW. Thanks for the tips.

My advice to you is to be patient for a while, Diablo III and Aion are both released in September.

I played EVE for a couple of months two summers ago, and while I really liked the gameplay, I hated the leveling system. It's in real-time (or at least it was), so you would never catch up to someone who had been playing the game longer than you. Also, you could only train one skill at a time, so if you trained the training booster skills that made all skills in that tree train faster, then you could easily lose a month of pre-requisite training and not have anything to show for it.

Also skills are tiered, with each tier taking longer than the last - level V of the first tier of a skill would literally take a month to train - and that's with the skill training both night and day, whether you were logged in or not. So, you do have a lot of set and forget type of training, unlike WoW where repetition was king.

On the other hand, there have been huge patches and expansions released since I played, so perhaps they overhauled everything. I hope they did for the beginners' sake.

I played Pirates of the Burning Sea when it was in beta, and I really enjoyed it. The towns were kind of simple and got boring (they were too similar), but attacking random ships out in the ocean was always a ton of fun.

diablo 3 isnt getting released in september.... blizzard has said that starcraft 2 will come out before D3 and starcraft 2's release date is still TBA. guild wars is pretty good, plenty to do and the dungeons and raiding is casual. no such thing as hardcore raiding in guild wars.

I'm guessing SC's release date is going to get bumped up because D3 is being released in September, and Blizzard still hasn't made up their minds about when to release SC 3 yet. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have both of those games in September, that'd be great.

Did you really just suggest that someone should try Vanguard?
Cool class concepts (loved the Bloodmage) is about the only redeeming aspect of that pile. You're losing some cred' here Khalil .

I've been playing Warhammer for the last couple months with some friends. The game is slowly dying, and the devs just don't seem to know how to fix the gross imbalances and enjoyment crushing bugs. I don't feel like paying for anything else till Aion comes out, though, and it has its moments of sweet, Order crushing victory.

I played EQ2 with a top guild for a couple of years back when it first came out. I like a lot of aspects of that game, but not enough friends still playing to entice me back.

I liked Vanguard, I did not get much chance to go far in it. Aion looks like it will be an awesome game. My schedule is getting worse all the time as my business grows, I am getting ready to open 2 more stores in September and October and I will have even less time to play. Personally I think Warhammer is a failure. I had a local guild have me build them new machines, they were all avid wow players and were all super excited about warhammer. All 15 of them quit it 4 months later and went back to WOW. That is sad!
I am tired of EQ2, only reason I ever log on is to hang out with my long time guildies, I have been in this guild since Ultima Online when we all started in 99.

I played WoW for a little, but had to stop. I think Im going to try and stay away from MMO's until The Old Republic is released.

I also forgot to mention that I played WoW for a summer and got sick of its monotony.

I preordered Aion a few weeks ago, wasn't available the weekend before last for the beta testing, and I'm out of town this coming weekend when there's more testing. Gah!

I've been playing AOC for a few weeks and I really like it. This is comeing from someone who plays alot of games.
It's been patched up and has a lot of new content.

If you have a high end PC it's even better. The graphics are awsome.
