AGP apperture size ?
Is the AGP apperture size about PCI memory given to AGP (or something like that), or am I completely lost, here ? Anyway, in my motherboard manual it says that the apperture size can be set to 0,2,4,8,16,32,64 (I think). What does it mean ? what is an optimal setting for the apperture size?
thanks once again, pstj |

That setting is the amount of system RAM the AGP card is allowed to use. The higher the better. If you have 128 megs of RAM or mor ein your machine, set it to 64 megs.

It allows the use of system RAM directly for video functions (caching of textures, etc.).
And yes, general rule of thumb is half of your total system RAM. |

Suppose you have 128 Mb RAM system memory, a 32 Mb video adapter and your AGP aperture is set to 64 Mb. So the AGP bus can address 64 Mb. The first 32 Mb will be addressed to the 32 Mb on your video adapter. The rest of the aperture will be addressed to 32 Mb System RAM
