Hi Colb_dog,
well, three days ago I had the exact same question. Simply put, the difference lies in the speed at which information is transfered. I suggest you ckeck out this website http://developer.intel.com/technolog...rial/index.htm and if you want stats this site http://www.motherboards.org/articles...ons/920_1.html hope that helps, pstj Last edited by pstj; 11-16-2001 at 02:08 PM. |

I should also add that the people here have been very useful in finding answer
Additonally, depending on the type of motherboard you have, you may only be able to reach 1x or 2x speeds. Most video cards are 2x compatible, which is great. 4x, according to someone (I forgot the name, sorry !) on this message board, is not used until high resolutions. pstj |

It's a matter of voltage too.
As you may know, P4s mobos will only support 4x AGP cards for their voltage. If you put a 2x or 1x card on one of these mobos you'll fry both the mobo and the video card.

From a performance point of view there appears to be very little difference between AGP 2x and AGP 4x. So if your mobo doesn't support 4x, don't feel you're missing too much.
