Question Video Memory

Hi. I have the Intel 810L chipset. HP says it provides up to 11 mb dynamic video memory. SiSoft Sandra says my system has:

Total Memory 36 mb(4 mb Video)(32 mb AGP)
Texture Memory 32 mb

I know the 810 graphics controller reserves 1 mb of my system RAM for video and can reserve up to 11 mb. What's this 36 mb? 32 mb AGP? 32 mb texture memory?
I'm confused. Thanks.

Cool

It sounds like your system is set to reserve 4MB of system RAM for video with an AGP aperture size of 32MB. The APG aperature is an additional amount of system RAM that can be used to store textures that cannot fit in the "video" RAM. I believe this aperature concept is unique to AGP video systems. The AGP aperature helps to increase performance by allowing storage of textures in system RAM, which is much faster than the hard drive. However, this typically requires that you have more than 64MB of RAM for it to be effective.

Hi there, yars, and welcome to the PC Mech forums.

Does your mobo have an AGP slot? If it doesn't then you'll probably be unable to disable the onboard video.
