Modern Warfare 2 on Steam
I have never had any issues with Steam. Every PC game I have purchased in the past several years has been through Steam. I like not having to worry about discs and the fact that it just works. This issue is not really Valves fault but it really has me steamed (bad pun).
Did anyone preorder MW2 on Steam? If you did, like me, you may have discovered when you tried to play it today that it is still locked. Why? Activision said so. Again, I ask... WHY??!! It makes no sense to me. Why does it make any difference to them whether I walked into a store or downloaded the game? I paid $59.99 - the same as everyone else who bought it today in a store. I have the game sitting on my hard drive. They did not have to spend money producing a disc or a retail package for me. WHY ON EARTH can I not play it? This is absolutely ridiculous! Why does the fact that I opted for the (supposed) convenience of buying the game digitally force me to wait an extra day before I can play it? What exactly do they gain by punishing people who pay THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY to purchase a game through more modern channels? So... I would be playing MW2 right now. Instead, I'll have to wait until 9 PM PST tommorrow. Why 9 PM PST? Because Activision says so. Why does the rest of the world get it at 3 PM PST? Because Activision says so. This makes even less sense. I am certainly going to think twice before I buy anything from Activision in the future.

I ordered my copy from Amazon for pc so I'm glad it hasn't arrived yet. PC World has been beating up Activision pretty good for joining Steam. This article today talks about the issue you and many more are having.

If Steam is such a PITA for you, then why not buy the box version? I have been okay with Steam. It will be interesting to see if they do the same thing to pre-purchasers of Left4Dead2 which will be released on October 18.
As far as MW2 goes, I will wait for its current price of 60 bucks (gag) to come down.

I actually really like Steam. I have never had any issues with it. I had alread pre purchased the game so I wasn't about to get the boxed version. I was just annoyed and confused by Activisions policy. It wasn't Valves problem.
Isn't Left 4 Dead a Valve game? If so I seriously doubt they would delay the release on there own delivery platform. By the way, MW2 is very good. I haven't started the campaign yet because I'm playing through the original again but multiplayer and spec ops is awesome. |

The single-player is great. The lack of dedicated servers will probably leave me playing CoD5 more than MW2 in the future. |

I don't mean to hijack the thread.
But has anyone tried the PC version and the PS3 version? Is there a difference? I read that the PC version is really laggy online compared to the PS3 version even though they both do not have dedicated servers.

I'm not finding any noticeable lag with the PC version.

It bugs me as well. I hate having to listen to the same music over and over in games. Games don't need music as far as I am concerned. Its almost a form of punishment for liking a violent game. Let us know if you find a solution.
