It's been a while since I played HL2. Now that you reminded me I might go back and play through it again though.
![]() HL2 is sort of a strategy/puzzle game mixed with an FPS. You have to use physics and really thing to get through a lot of places. If you get stuck a walkthrough can be helpful. There are many out there but here's one I found quickly on Google: http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/ha...tinsertion.htm Hope that helps.

There's an "in thing" with games, it's similar to what happens if you usually play challenging crossword puzzles, you can recognize patterns (This doesn't mean the designers won't cross you up of course, they love doing that, but it gives you some idea of structure for the game. ).
Use the walk through and you get to learn what you need to be considering, we've all been lost newbs in a game world and Half Life is fierce. I like it for the reason that, if you don't, "freak"' you've already been taught the answer if you can just hang on. Keep thinking! Meanwhile, run when possible.

LOL, the first time I played it, I too wandered around the station square for a while before I noticed the ladder. Once you get started, it's quite straightforward from then on, since HL2 is a very linear game, and there are not many opportunities to lose one's way in a mission.
With free roaming games like Oblivion/Fallout3, once you exit the 'training/introduction' level, the degree of freedom/choice can quickly overwhelm a 'newcomer'. Despite being an experienced gamer, the first time I played Oblivion, after exiting the 'training' sewer, I swam across the river to some Ayleid ruins and engaged some well armed bandits with my rusty iron sword. Needless to say my posterior was quickly handed back to me on a platter After reloading, I made way towards the Imperial City and camped out there for a while building up my skills and 'figuring out' the game before engaging hostiles.
