oblivion stuck problem

hey everybody.
k so i just bought this laptop about 3 weeks ago. and got oblivion today. when i put the disk in a pop up tells me "setup.exe has stopped working" and a problem caused the program to stop working and witll close. It will notify me when a solution is available.
thats as far as i can get. i have tried running as an administrator.
ive looked at what you have suggested to the others on this page, and that link to the mods page:

i downloaded this mod, but it will not let me run it cause i think i have to alrwady have installed oblivion on my comp. to allow the mod to run.
could you please suggest something else for me to try?

Welcome to PC Mech forums. I moved your issue to a separate thread since, though the problem is similar to the original thread's topic, you have what looks like a problem diagnosis issue that you would like tailored specifically to you.

The firs thing is to try the disk in another computer so that you know that it isn't the problem.
If Setup freezes at a particular file the problem is with the disk, not your computer.

i would say its vista related also. i tried to load godfather on my laptop with vista...would work. once i loaded windows 7 all was good. and the game worked fine on my desktop with xp.

due to these hidden issues that seem to pop up out of the blue, I've removed all Vista pc's in our house and went with a fresh install of win 7. Since we have been running Win 7, I can honestly say none of my kids had any problems with game incompatibility. I am always careful to approach the problem with eyes wide open, but it's interesting how much less issues my family has had since removing Vista from our home.

I would not necessarily blame Vista. Oblivion in all its glory works fine on my Vista 64 machine. I think it may relate to running such a graphics intensive program on a laptop...or as Pam says, perhaps it is the disk?
