Question Problem running Nascar Racing 4

I have been trying to get Nascar Racing 4 running on XP Pro. I have been able to run the install, but when I try to run the program nascarracing4.exe shows up in the process window of task manager for a few seconds then goes away. I have tried the running the program as administrator but that did not work. I have tried several different options in compatibility mode to no success.
This game was made by Sierra, but searching the web I believe this company is out of business.
I have also tried installing nascar season 2002 only to have the same results. The only difference is when I try to run nascar seasom 2002, I get the nr2002.exe file in the process window of task manager and it runs processor performance to 100% but the game never starts.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

It's time to start checking out game patches for your versions : http://www.racelinecentral.com/gamepatches.html

edit : Also check to see if the games have had trouble with any security software in the past.

I found a patch for NR4 and installed it, but it did not help. I tried running NR4 with my security software disabled with no success.
I think that my video card is the cause of the problem, because I noticed when I run the config program for NR4 now when it finishes it says that the configuration could not be saved. Before I installed the program I did not get this error.

That card is old enough to have "wear" problems and video cards can die by degrees.
Did you keep your last driver download for it ?

Yes, I still have the original disk. But I updated the drivers as one of the steps to get NR4 running. I currrently have Nascar Racing 3 installed and it runs fine.

edit : My error, comment moved to correct post.

Did you install the game from a CD-RW drive ?
This came up with a few games in the time period you're running you're having trouble with.
If you installed them from a burner they wouldn't run.

There was a work around using hide/ignore media that was in use but I haven't seen it in awhile.

edit : See if anything in this thread, it from the same time frame, helps you : http://club.myce.com/f64/sims-deluxe...ont-run-71888/

Ok, I will check out the link you provided. I installed the game with an 52x CD-Rom drive.I admit that the drive does not always work the best, so I did replace it with an 56x CD-Rom but I have not tried reinstalling the game with the 56x yet.

Success!

NR4 is now running. I am not sure what was stopping NR4 from running, but I removed a number of programs on my computer that was not being used and cleaned up the registry. After doing those two things, I clicked on NR4 icon and it started and ran. Yeah!
If I had of done this to begin with, I probably would not have had this issue at all.

Thanks for the help Pam!
