Benchmarks for the new Nvidia GTX 480

The official release date for this card was March 26. It still does not beat the 5970 overall with its two GPU's, but it comes surprisingly close in some benchmarks.

A perfect price point would be for its manufacturers to sell it at $550. My guess is they will start out at $600. Of course with the initial short supply, the price gougers will be selling it for much higher for a few months. I'm curious how the dual GPU version will benchmark when it eventually comes out.

I've read a few reviews that indicate this card generates lots of heat which of course causes the fan's to kick in to overdrive. Naturally NVIDA says it not as bad as stated in the reviews but my 5970 can get annoying during game play when it gets warm. Hopefully NVIDA will get the driver issue's resolved they've been having of late, I get tired of rolling back drivers on my other rig.

Navy,
Yeah...I'm looking for a new graphics card. I'm considering a 5970 like you have or this card. The potential problem with this card will be high prices from there being a shortage like there always is for a newly released high end card and problems with buggy drivers...again, like there always is.

Given there are little to no 5970's available right now, it looks like I will be waiting things out. If things are as usual, S.N.A.F.U.'d, then probably 6 months before its all fixed?

Yea, the card is pricey but I try and get a new rig about every 2-3 years, buying whats available at the time to keep it "up to date" so to speak for during those years. I figured the 5970 would keep me gaming and doing my photo/video stuff for several years. I love the card but it's a beast inside the case and does generate some heat, I've got good airflow throughout the system so it's not an issue. Hopefully the 5970 shortage will sort itself out now that NVIDIA is releasing it's new cards.
