Run to Best Buy

The ones around here have (or had) the Visiontek Geforce3 TI200 for $149.99 plus a $50 mail-in rebate Might be too late though as it didn't look like they had too many of them.

Would have been a great deal, but they had a lot of things that were available in limited quantities (such as TEN of the Palm Vx per store @ $150.00/ea.) to get people into the store.

There is a new Best Buy near where I live, and I have already bought a couple of small things there. I was thinking of buying my new monitor there, but their sales person said that they do not carry the Sony 19" monitors, only the 17" units .

I do have to find a good sound card, though.... anybody using the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz?

I saw the same ad for VisionTek Xtasy 6564 graphics card. It was a 7AM to 12Noon sale only, limited to 15 per store, on Friday the day after Thanksgiving (US). Well, I was standing in line at 6:30 AM with about 400 other people thinking I might get a good deal on this card. It normally sells for $199 US but was going for $149 plus a $50 rebate, i.e., $99 US. I walked into Best Buy at 7:05 went directly to the graphic card area and saw the sales person hand out the last two they had in stock! I asked if that was all just to make sure and he said what they had out was all they had! I was disappointed.

Anyway, later that same Friday about 2:00 PM and what did I see? About 5 of the same cards on the shelf! I grabbed one and asked the salesperson (a different one) if they were still honoring the $149 price with the $50 rebate. He said sure as far as he knew. So I walked out of Best Buy that afternoon with a great deal.

Moral of the story: Don't believe what they tell you during the sales rush...come back later and try again!

Wow, were there any 60 gig hd's for 50 left? I really didn't need a card. I was hoping for the palm, a cd burner and the wd hard drive. I went to compusa later that day and picked up a cd writer that was a better brand for 10 bucks more w/ MIR (same before MIR). I also got a 40 gig maxtor hd. Not as good a deal as the 60 gig (.83 dollard a gig!!!), but still less than the average 2 dollars a gig with it costing 1.5 dollars a gig. So 20 more dollars, but still good deals. I'm dissapointed about the palm though, I was going to get it as a gift, but it just didn't happen.
