This is something that I have dealt with for a long time and have had the same problem on three different systems. I just want to know if someone else has experienced the same problem and found a fix for it. When playing standard avi files, I get a multicolored bar at the bottom of the video. This also occurs on splash screens upon opening software (i.e. MGI videowave). If I convert an avi file to any other kind of video file, this does not happen. I have had this problem running the identical setup (specs below in sig) with a Soyo 5EMA-Pro/AMD K62-500, an ABIT KT7A-RAID/1.0 T'Bird and my current system. I have tried updating to the latest ATI driver, and Direct X 8.0, any suggestions are appreciated.

Try updating your video codecs. Go to Divx.com for their newest codecs and open windows media player and hit the check for updates button.
