COD 4 - Asks for correct DVD

I have purchased COD 4 and very much would like to play this game but whenever I attempt to load it the opening screen offers several options, one of which is to play the game (not On Line) when I select this it asks that COD 4 Disc one be placed in the DVD drive. It is already there and attempts to have it 'see' it so far have been unsuccessful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you see the CD and its contents in Windows Explorer?

I can not play COD4 single player because it asks me to insert the correct DVD. But I have it in my DVD Drive

* - Hold down the left shift key when inserting the game disc if this problem is occuring on launch.
* - Make sure you have 32 bit drivers for your CD-ROM drive.
* - Set the CD-ROM cache size to zero.
* - Change the DMA setting on the CD-ROM drive.
* - Make sure the drive letters for the CD-ROM is set correctly.
* - Make sure that the location for CD music to play is set correctly.
* - Make sure your system can successfully play Audio CD's.
* - Turn off Auto Insert Notification.
* - If you have the CD burning software Alcohol 120% installed you need to turn off all of the emulation options.

1. Go to File > Options.
2. Click on Emulation in the menu to the left.
3. Uncheck all options in the window to the right.

* If you have CloneCD you need to turn off the Hide CDR media setting. This setting is accessible from the task tray icon for clone CD. Right-click on the icon and uncheck Hide CDR media.
* If you have an Nforce based motherboard go to http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp and get the latest Nforce drivers for your motherboard chipset.

Pam, are you sure your title is not "Gaming Professor" instead of "Computing Professor"?

Good one

There are some family gamers with my phone number so I'm kept in the loop.

Possible or the disk is damaged or just a bad press.
We need to know if any of the recognized fixes worked before we consider those possibilities.

Using another DVD please test the drive.
Will it run a movie?
Will it install another game?
Will it recognize a data disc ?

What in the above list from the COD4 forum have you tried (The fact that it says CD can be ignored.).

edit : You can try re-doing the game install but this time as follows :
Quote:
insert disc > Open my computer > right click COD4 disc > open > run setup as usual

I have tried only one or two of the suggestions in the forum, honestly I did not know half the time how to do what was suggested. The DVD can play movies, load other games/software. As for the forum it will take me awhile to research how to do the tasks suggested. In the meantime.....
I will try your suggestion for the re-install and will let you know. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
