good day eh
friend of mine has p2-266 aptiva (model 2140)with win95 according to the spec sheet i downloaded, it has ati rage pro agp on the mb with 2 mb video memory upgradeable to 4 megs first of all, he's having troubles installing or running directX8.0 everything from aoe2 to a snes emulator give him grief then i learned that the video drivers at ibm's site only support directx5 and directx8.1 says it's not for win95 puters the emulator (which is a major reason i convinced him to buy a pc) specifically requires 8.0 so, is there a way to get 8.0 or 8.1 on the computer? anybody else run w95/dx8? would other rage pro drivers besides ibm's work? exactly how sucky is a rage pro with 2 megs memory? eventually i'll try to get him to buy a new video card, but he still owes me $ for the computer, so i don't want to push the issue thanks |

Moral of the story: Never buy a PC from any brand if you intend to play games on it.
I sold a Compaq to one of my customers (Celeron 466, 96 MB of RAM, 15 GB HD, and... 1 MB shared video) a couple of years ago, and a month ago he called me over because the game Black & White wouldn't run. This game needs a 3D accelerator with at least 8 MB of RAM, and guess what? the ammount of shared video memory of his machine couldn't be increased. The B&W CD is now used to play freesbee.
