Can anyone help?
I recently upgraded my motherboard and processor, but doing so caused an error to occur anytime I try to play a video or run a game with 3d graphics: "ddhelp.exe caused an invalid page fault in unknown module." Both Microsoft support site and ATI support site said that reinstalling DirectX or the video card driver would fix the problem. However, this does not work. I have even tried reinstalling Windows. I have Windows 98 se ATI Radeon 32mb sdr PCI video card Asus A7v-e motherboard Athlon T-Bird CPU Any help would be appreciated. thx. |

Hi trickybeck,
This error can mean (amoungst other things) either a corrupt DX install or there is an incompatibilty between the graphics card and/or graphic drivers and particular versions of DX. What version of DX are you using? DX 8? If so, you could try DX 7 and see if the problem persists. To do this you would either have to reinstall Windows and DX 7 or use DX Buster to remove DX 8 and then install DX 7. http://www.directxbuster.de/index_e.html DX Buster is not perfect. So if it doesn't work properly or causes problems then you may have reinstall Windows. I don't know if this going to be the solution to your problem, but it may be worth a try. HTH |

ddhelp
my version of DX is 8.1. I'm pretty sure it happened when I had 8.0, but I upgraded to 8.1 within an hour of changing motherboards, which is when the error occured. My Graphics Card requires at least DX 8.0, so I am going to try uninstalling 8.1 and installing 8.0.
thx. |

Sometimes reinstalling drivers keeps the problem in there, always best to delete all drivers and card and start from scratch, I would assume the driver disk for the card has DX on it ?
I would be curious to try the same card in an AGP format to see if that does anything to cure the problem, don't suppose that the shop where you bought the PCI card would let you try it ? |

Well, thanks for all the help but nothing worked....until I installed Windows XP. The problem never came up again. I guess I have a little more faith in Microsoft, XP seems to be pretty good.

As I am an XP user since it was released I might have suggested that, but with getting shot at by all the XP non beleivers and knockers continually it is sometimes better to say nothing about, going to XP.
Good news eh ? XP saves another..... "XP in my AMD XP still rules". |
