Monday Night Combat

It's a new game released on Steam. They released it for the XBox a few months back. In short, it's kind of a mix between Team Fortress 2 and DotA. It's a blast to say the least, and it only costs $15.00. I'd highly recommend checking it out.

Note: there's an existing problem running under XP with an ATI card. While the game will launch and you're able to hit loading screens for levels, newer versions of the catalyst driver seem to lock up the game in a way where a hard reset is required (keyboard escape sequences don't respond). Running catalyst 10.8 or older seems fine. If you have a newer 6xxx card and are running XP, you're out luck for the moment since those can only be rolled back to catalyst 10.10.

Windows 7 doesn't appear to have any issues.

Saw this when it came out on Xbox and was intrigued at the hybrid mix, but I don't play shooters on the console (can't adapt to the joypad from the mouse, or rather, don't want to.... toooo... slowwww....)

Might have to give this a dip now it's out on Steam

An Xbox review I read mentioned some lag issues though – how does the game run on the PC, smoothly, any lag worries?

Cranking up all the graphics settings seems to cause some lag. If you dial them back a notch or two, it's fine.

The PC version makes use of dedicated servers, so I find lag to be almost nonexistent. I sort the server list by ping, low to high, and join the lowest ping server with the most players in it. I've been loving this game since the XBox version.

I just updated my catalyst drivers from 10.8 to 11.2, and Monday Night Combat no longer balked at the newer drivers. It looks like one of the recent MNC updates addressed the issue.
