i have to pause my Kaspersky to keep the game from freezing..
the GPU is running 49*C.. i have been running the game on high settings with no problems. i put a new GPU heatsink/fan on but it seems to be running cool.. i have an ASUS Rampage Formula in a 9"x9.5"x14" case with a 180mm fan pulling a heck of a lot of cold air thru it. both CPU cores are running 100% on 2.8 Gb ram out of 8 Gb after a playing a while.. they start out at about 85%/92%. i have a thermocouple bonded on the CPU chip.. with a Klazmaster LED read out running about 23*C (it's pretty cold in this basement) with a Silent Knight Cooler on it. i have another thermocouple on my #1 Ram card bonded to an IC chip with Arctic Silver Epoxy.. it is running about 29*C. the north bridge and south bridge are running about 30*C/32*C ..i removed the thermal tape on those and replaced it with Arctic Silver. what do i need to check.. this cant be normal.. it is something new. i shut down a lot of the start up programs. thanks..

I need to know if we're on the same page.
You were running the game with no problems then you put a new heatsink/fan on the gpu and now your dual core cpu hits 100% when you try to run the game ? You checked to make sure you didn't dislodge or loosen anything else and you're using the same drivers as before you changed the heatsink/fan ?

well, ..yes. i put the same drivers in it, i removed them and re installed.. no luck, i deleted them and installed earlier drivers, same thing happened..
but, it plays for a while, 15 minutes or so. then both cores in the CPU max out and it freezes and blacks out. if i leave the Anti Virus active it freezes right away. that is why i was looking for the Nvidia Monitor tools.. to check to see if the new heat sink was working.. it is running much cooler after installing the Zalman unit. i scrubbed the Start up menu, it starts a lot faster. i am wondering about the Processes in the Task Manager, there are 56, and a bunch in the System list also. i will go thru the case again and look around. could it be the RAM.?? is there a specific RAM test i should do.? is there a CPU test i can do.? if i cant get it going I'll take it to my local family owned shop and pay the $20 for a system check up scan. when i first started coming here i didn't know anything about computers, i had replaced a DVD player once. the learning curve on this stuff is really steep. thanks to PCmech i have built 4 computers, i help people all the time, i refer people here all the time. my wife was at Goodwill last fall and saw a Best Buy 'Geek Squad' hat there.. she got it for me. i built her a really good computer, put it in a Pink Raidmax case.. she brags about it all the time. uses it for her Medical Coding business. i really appreciate all the help. thanks again. |

Here the "How to" and the download for Win7 memtest as approved by Microsoft : RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Forums
Yes you can stress test a cpu but it doesn't sound as if you've got a real reason to do it but here : CPU - Stress Test with Prime95 - Page 2 - Windows 7 Forums Yes you really do need to through the Processes in Task Master, 56 is an over the top number but ( and this is important) unless that number is a change from the previous count I don't see how it's the problem, unless something got updated that you overlooked. |

What's the cpu running at when not playing the game? You may have picked up some malware that's consuming a lot of cpu cycles. You should do a thorough scan in safe mode with a fully updated Malwarebytes just to eliminate that possibility.

there is a bug in the game.. people who have Big Quad Cores are saying it max's out their cores too..
i was just being paranoid about this thing being outa whack again. when Sandy Ridge gets their 1155 recall fixed up i will probably get one and a Gigabyte Board to SLI. i had decided to wait till April to see how it reviewed and if the price went down.. i guess I'm psychic. sorry i didn't get back right away.. i had a sleep test and i have sleep apnia, i have been really tired. i also have been setting up a board repair business. i was the F22, C17, Delta3 Rocket, etc, etc.. rework specialist at Boeing. a local computer store talked me into re-working mother boards, GPU's for them. it is going to be be fun, i almost have all the tools i need.. got about $600 into it but I'll be able to work several stores.. i have a day job in Aerospace but my wife lost her $85,000 a yr job, i only make about a third of that, and she has another year of tech school. thanks for the links.. i want to check them out. i need to learn more about that. |
