Battlefield 3 Gets Ripped On

I just read about 20 or so reviews of BF3 on Amazon. The reviews don't make me want to buy the game now which is kind of a bummer, especially the part about Origin being spyware and other obnoxious things. There seem to be a lot of people pissed off about this game and Origin.

When the time comes to write up the demise of PC Gaming self-inflicted will be prominent.

I got it. I was initially a bit fed up with Origin and Battlelog, but I think it's the way things are going for all games, we just have to accept it, and it's actually great.

You have to find servers and launch through the browser, but as long as you aren't running IE x64 or a Chrome beta version it should work.

The game itself, takes a bit of getting used to and learning, but I like that, means it's a challenge unlike CoD. My machine runs it smoothly on low, so you should do well

I bought Bad Company 2 thinking it would be an awesome game. I logged about 4 hours and ended up uninstalling it. Apparently I am not the target market. I find Call of Duty to be much more entertaining.

I downloaded the Battlefield 3 beta and was thoroughly disappointed. Origin is very annoying. Why can't I just used Steam? Why come up with some stupid new program that has to run all the time and apparently collect information that EA has no business collecting?

I found the game play to be boring and slow. Again, maybe I'm attuned to the fast paced game play in the Call of Duty series but I just can't get into the Battlefield style of play.

The web based server browser is a joke. When I clicked on a server the game would open in the background and I would have to alt+tab into it and then make it full screen. Now, this was the beta but it certainly didn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I'm getting to the point where if I can't buy it on Steam it's not really worth my time. I hope Origin is not the beginning of a trend where every publisher makes their own little piece of bloated proprietary software that is required to run each game.

I'm going to pre-order Modern Warfare 3 on Steam.

I too didn't like BC2, but I loved BF2. I played around 250 hours of CoD4, but then it becomes boring, the gameplay is repetitive, the maps are too small and have very few routes through them, so before long, no round is any different to the next. This is made even worse on S&D rounds where it will feel really restricted. Some maps mean you can hit from spawn to spawn if you just learn where to aim, seems a bit crap to me.

Origin works fine for me.

At the start of the round it may be a little slow, but once the game beings you won't find it very repetitive, and their are endless ways through the map you can take. CoD is nice and fast paced, but it is also very arcade-ish. You don't get the same freedom to navigate the map.

The web based server list isn't great I'll admit, but the infrastructure of stats, battle logs and friends makes up for it. The game does open up in the background, but there is a checkbox, which by default is ticked, which does switch you into the game once it's ready.

Enjoy it, unfortunately it just looks like MW1 and MW2 rebadged with a few updates to me. If it brought something new like the bridge from CoD2 to CoD4 did that'd be nice.

All I can say, I love me some Battlefield, including 3. Ive been playing non-stop since it came out . I like the squad idea instead of the run 'n gun rehash that is COD...same poo, different pile.

Yep, if it's not on steam, I pretty much ignore it.

EA had some sort of disagreement with valve (the details aren't clear), and pulled their more recent games from steam (such as dead space 2 and crysis 2), and started up their own distribution network.

Considering EA has had issues with crossing the line with DRM practices in the past, I'm thinking that may have had something to do with it.

Steam is so convenient it is hard to justify purchasing from someone else.

I would just like to give you guys this link. It is not hard fact, but there is still a possibility that it is going to be sold on steam.

BF3 site

Though this is true, I don't think they will change the browser server search, which honestly isn't that bad.

I really hope that's true. I might just have to pick it up. The EA Downloader you had to use to patch and install BF2 from the internet was absolutely awful.

It sucks they got rid of the commander role. It added a great dynamic to the game and it seems like EA is trying to adopt too much of Bad Company into their main series. As much as some people complain about CoD its pretty obvious how much it has negatively influenced the development of the Battlefield series since BF2 was released.

I just got done buying about $150 worth of heavily discounted games on Steam over the Thanksgiving holiday. I have enough to keep me entertained for at least half a year. No need for BF3. I am not going to play their games, both literally and figuratively.

That's exactly what I do. I wait for the steam sales and buy up a ton of awesome games for 5-10 bucks a piece.
