Anyone know where I can find Half Life stand-alone edition for around $15?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find Half Life (and only Half Life, not one of the bundles) for around $15. I have a friend who wants Half Life so I decided to buy him the game as a christmas gift.
Online retailers or major retail chains...it doesn't matter.
Any place that sells it for a reasonable price is good to me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi chpco2000,

All the online shops I've checked (Best Buy, EBWorld, Amazon) only carry the $29.99 game of the year edition. You should check Fry's (if there's one near you), they may still have a copy of the orignal for cheaper.

I've already checked Fry's Electronics. They only have the Platinum bundle and Counter Strike.

Hm...is there any other game thats similar to Half Life (and is also as good as Half Life) around $20?
Also, my friends computer is about two years old. He has a P2 400 MHz with a ATI Rage Pro video card.

A game similar to half life???? Yes

"Unreal Gold" $9.95 at Toys'r'US
Bought it about 5 days ago.
Best 10 bucks Iv ever spent on a game.
I play it on a PII 266Mhz. On the setup it gives you choices for what kind of video card you have.

Half Life is better but unreal is the same game play/mission action.

Yeah, like bosco suggested, take a loot at Unreal (single player) or Unreal Tournament (single player vs. bots, and multiplayer), both great games and should be around $20.

Unreal Huh? Well, I don't think my friend is a Unreal fanatic. He's tried the demo, and didn't go crazy over it. I love for one the game.

Hm...What about Deus Ex? It goes for $20 at most places. I hear it's a good game. Is it similar to Half Life? I would just download the demo, but the demo is 140 megs and I have a 56k connection.
I'm also looking at No One Lives Forever.

Exclamation A game similar to Half-Life????

Alright, alright, alright- I just gotta say, there is nothing similar to Half-Life. It's not just a game, Half-Life is... well, Half-Life is life!

I agree... Half Life has been around the block a time or two. It has built up a reputation as a "milestone" game. It has a ton of mods that make it even more of a treasure. UT is a sweet looking game, don't get me wrong. But before I was into the UT mod "Tactical Ops", I was a Counter Strike junkie for almost a year!

Half Life is the Bomb Diggity!

Can't wait for the sequel!!!

I am an avid TFC'er and have been for over 2 years. I have played No One Lives Forever and like it a lot. The graphics are decent and the story line is good. Another one that I would recomend is Serious Sam: The first encoutner, it is right a $20. It was a first person shooter similar to Doom. The graphics are stunning and the amount of monsters on screen at one time is absolutely ridiculous sometimes. It does require openGL to run it though.
