I am looking for a good first person game. A friend suggested Dues Ex. Any suggestions from the gaming experts?

Unreal Tournament with the Tactical Ops mod, Half Life with the Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, and Team Fortress Classic Mods, and Quake 3 Arena.
Any questions?

Tiretool's listed the best multiplayer games-- For single player FPS's, I suggest Serious Sam for all out mayhem (and its only $20), but the recently released Red Faction is excellent (sort of like an updated version of Half-Life) and Return to Castle Wolfenstein is great (a must have). Red Faction and Wolfenstein also come with Multiplayer modes (although Wolfenstein does not have a deathmatch mode).

Another vote for Half-Life (great game), Unreal Tournament, and Castle Wolfenstein.

Deus Ex is a great game with a lot of depth. So is Half-Life. Both are must have.
To me multiplayer is not important, so I always buy games that offer me the most immersive single player experience. Those titles above offer it. Red Faction, tough I haven't played it, would be a worthy buy, it features deformable environment that no other game until now does.

Depends, as they mentioned. If you're a single player fan, Deus Ex is very good. If multiplayer is your thing, that has variations as well. Quake 3 is probably the most balanced 1v1 game, but the Unreal Tournament team mods are better IMHO.
If strategy/tactics is your thing, Unreal Tac Ops is very good as well, and for the truly old school, you still can't get much better than Rogue Spear .

SWAT3, Rogue Spear, Rainbow Six, and Hitman are good tactical FPS. I like Hitman.
![]() Max Payne, the Half Life series, and the Delta Force series are a must play. Then Wolfenstein (the original and the new release), Thief I and II, SiN, and QuakeII. Further down the list is Soldier of Fortune, Requiem, Wheel of Time, Project IGI, Turok2. QuakeIII, Unreal, Counter Strike, and Team Fortress are the addictive multiplayer games. I have yet to play Red Faction or Deus Ex. But, after speaking with a developer for Deus Ex, looks like I will have to try it. I hear Halo supposedly has a wickedly ingenious design behind it. So, I would keep an eye on Halo. Respectfully, Demosthenes |

The cool thing about deus ex is nothing in the world is static. If you see a flower pot in a building and wanna pick it up and do something with it, you can, for instance
.

I'll give a shout out for my favorite sneakers: Thief 1 and 2. For a pre-Deus Ex, and a scary little game, try System Shock 2.
