G,day,this is my first post.
i have just purchased a new pc asus p4b 478 pin mobo with avance ac 97 audio 1.9ghz intel processor geforce 2. os win98se my problem is the sidewinder force feedback pro is not operating properly, when i try to access its propeties and adjust anything ,it says, the power is not connected, although the joystick is powered and performs well on my old pc,and, it does function on the new pc,but,is very eratic. i have the latest drivers for it,and have checked and rechecked its installed properly,my searching tells me that it is probably a sound issue causing the conflict...... i hope someone may shed some light on this for me.

Were you using the on-board game port in your old computer or had an independent sound card?
I recommend you buy a sound card and disable the ac 97 audio, it is just crappy. Try Creative's SB Live! or Audigy cards, they surely pack a punch. Maybe it is something wrong with your mobo and you'll need to pull out the warranty papers.

the old system was a p3 500 with onboard ess solo 1 something or other os win 98 slot one type mobo
i did notice in the add a controller listing that on the old system the joystick is listed,on the new system it is not, although a later model is. itll be a shame if i have to get a new sound card, because i quite like the sound manager that comes with the ac 97.but i guess ill try the new sidewinder to see if it works on my new board. thanks for the reply as i thought no one had an opinion on this

reset the usbports ...
turn off pc and plug in and out a usb-plug in all the ports..for several times...then they r resetted and u can reboot then normally it can be over...if not it's a soft-ware prob ... also a good advice for usb-devices like gamepads and all: never let them plugged in while turning off/on the pc ..plug them in when the os is booted
