Hi-
I've been experiencing distorted sound when running UT on a Micron Millenia XP 1.3 Ghz AMD, GF2 Ultra, 512 MB, SB Live sound card, MS XP Pro. Music plays smoothly (if enabled) but the game sounds are badly distorted. No IRQ conflict with the sound card, and Q3A, Rally Trophy, Half-Life, RtCW, etc all sound just fine. I have another machine which is identical except it has a 1.4 Ghz AMD processor and GF3. The sound in UT on this machine is fine. Any clues for a PC newbie? Thanks, Bri |

I would try downloading the latest soundblaster live drivers (3.0) for Windows XP. It did the trick for me on my athlon 950 (SLOT A) mobo and windows XP.

UT Sound
Yeah, I tried that. It didn't help, but going to the advanced prefs and turning off "direct sound" did the trick. Anybody know why that would work? What is "direct sound" anyway?
TIA, bri |
