Hi RobH,
I would go with a GeForce2 Ti450/Pro or a Radeon 7500.

You might want to check the Visiontek Geforce 2 GTS-V at Newegg. This card is a slightly underclocked GTS and is $70.00 shipped. Heck of a budget card.

Also a very good card with a bunch of extras is the ATI All-N-Wonder Radeon Which feature 32MB DDR Ram, TV Tuner, Hardware DVD Decoder, Video Capture and editing, Digital Monitor Support, and is a heck of a card. I play Return to Wolfenstein with great graphics.

That's a pretty big range for video cards right now. You have pretty much excluded GF3's and Radeon 8500 on the high end and MX200 and below on the bottom end. Are you leaning closer to $75 or closer to $140. It appears right now that there is a distinctive 70-90 market, a 90-110 market and a 125-150 market in your specified price range.

First time Poster here,
I too would be interested in this answer. I have a home build with ECS P4ITA (yes I have seen posts but since last PC was Compaq 4712 Pentium 166 so I have no complaints as it is stable)/Intel 1.5 GHz P4/256 MB RAM/DVD's CDRW's etc/Win XP/and ATI Xpert 2000 Pro After helping boss buy laptop and seeing GeForce2 16 MB in his new laptop playing UT, I decided to try 3D Mark. No laughing please, I scored 547. In the 90-110 range would I see an improvement? How much using 3D Mark as estimate? Or Should I hold off and wait for the Visiontek Xtasy 6564 to come down in price? Is a GeForce 3 that much better than a 2. My Gaming No online gaming - too old and not enough time to get good at it, Halflife plus mods and add ons, Combat Mission, Nascar 4 Thank you |

well I've only had experiences with ati, and voodoo cards. So I suggest either a 7200 at, or the 7500, the 7500 is ddr, so it will be faster, but more expensive.

In the price range you specified I would recommend either the ATI Radeon 7500 or the Gainward GeForce 2 Ti 450. Both are about $110.00 at newegg. With your setup either one will give you a significant boost in performance. I would guess your 3Dmark scores would improve to at least 7 to 8 times higher. With a PIII 1ghz and the Ti450 I score 3855 in 3dMark2001 with no tweaks.
