Hi all,
What are some good racing sims (eg. car/motorcycle/F1 etc.) that work under win2k? The two I have, Superbike 2001 and Moto Racer 2 (both motorcycle racing sims), are not supported under win2k. TIA. |

I'm not familiar with Win2k ( I'm running XP & Win 98SE) but I have have F1 2001 by EA Sports and it says it will work in Win2k. Does Win2k have a "Compatibility Mode" like XP does??

IF you are looking for a true racing SIMULATION, not an arcade-type racer. I would suggest the Papyrus (Sierra) Line. Grand Prix Legends and Nascar Racing 4 are two of the best SIMULATIONS out there. THey have a very steep learning curve and pretty much require a steering wheel/pedals combination to be competitive. Don't get these games if you are easily frustrated, these are AS REAL AS IT GETS.

Nascar Heat is a great racing sim. Nascar 4 is a little more realistic but for playablity Heat is the Best. You can also race online with Nascar Heat at www.internetracefinder.com. You will have to download the game patch for Win2k at Windows Update

Floppyman,
vnitto is right. Nasacr 4 and Grand prix Legends are two of the best racing sims ever created. I have them both. However I'm not sure if they are Win 2000 Compatible. I know Nascar 4 works with XP. Grand prix Legends is an older sim so I didn't even bother to try installing it on my XP drive. I'm playing it on my Win 98 hard drive. You would get much more of the advice you need at this forum: http://www.sportplanet.com/hg/forums/ The members of the High Gear Forum will provide with all the information you're looking for. |

Yes, GRAND PRIX LEGENDS does work on Windows 2000. Not a problem with it at all. Installed all patches and it runs very smoothly. Just make sure you download the OPENGL and Direct3d patches if you're not running a voodoo 3D graphics card.

I have N4, GPL Legends, F1-2001, and Nascar Heat.
N4 and GPL are definately the more realistic of the bunch. N4 has great on-line racing capability. F1-2001 poor on-line support and fussy with some controlers. Same for Heat. It has great graphics, poor on-line and some controller issues as well. Nascar 2002 will be out in Feb. 2002 and will raise the bar again. Now if Sierra/Papy would just do the next generation of an open wheel sim we would be all set. |

Im not big on racing sims but a few friends of mine play motorcity online. It's cool because its an MMORPG so you play with thousands of other people on different 'shards'. From the looks of it you buy, sell, and trade different parts and eventually upgrade your hooptie ride to a high performance machine and race others for money. It mixes arcade racing with sim (more heavily relying on the sim aspect). You have to pay for a monthly subscription ($9.99 isnt bad) and you can check it out here.

Naw Steady, Im referring to Sierra Nascar 2002.
All of the EA releases that I have are more arcade games than race sims. Good graphics, Period, end of game. So far in my opinion GPL even though 4 years old is still the benchmark. |

EA Sports has the license for the "Nascar 200x" title don't they? At any rate, I agree GPL has the best physics of any Race Sim ever. The good news is that I hear Papy is working on "GPL 2"!! I don't know which racing era they will base the game on though. Last edited by Steady Teddy; 12-29-2001 at 12:19 PM. |

Thanks for the link Jim.
I hope that Nascar 2002 will have a "Save Race in Progress" feature. That's my one gripe with N4. I prefer to run FULL races. But since N4 has the same Physics Engine as GPL, it's not possible to save a race. This takes away from the reaslism in my opinion. Who the hell has time to race for 4 1/2 hours at Daytona in one sitting? They had the feature in N3. I hope they bring it back for their next Nascar sim! |
