Strange Q about doom 2

I know that it's a strange question, but does anybody know how to finish the final level of doom 2 without cheats?
I reached a place with two platforms, I'm on one of them and I have to reach the other.
BTW, even if doom is a ancient game, it's one of the greatest games I have ever played.

I don't think that is the last level of Doom 2.

Hi aym_7,

The last level of Doom 11 is indeed the the "Icon of Sin".

The brief is simple but incredibly hard. Pop a couple of rockets into the Boss thro the rectangular opening between the Goathead's eyes.
To do this you must press the two goathead panels.
Get to to the top tier and press the centre switch.
Jump down into the slime and press the square column.
Ride the column up until you face the large Goathead and pop a rocket between it's eyes.
Jump on to the the Boss's platform and grab the goodies.
Jump back into the slime and take extreme evasive action until you can score another hit between the Goatshead eyes.
Very hard when you're being pulversied from all directions.
If you can do this without cheating then you should be in Delta Force.
BTW behind the Goatshead is the the famed Icon of Sin - John Romero's head on a stake!

Enjoy!

2 sense

this might be a stupid question but if you are going to play it according to what the last poster said, don't you think that is cheating? I think so.

Just asking since you said you didn't want to cheat.

Hi Iman74,

I didn't say that aym_7 "should" cheat but was merely saying that if he does it without cheating, he's doing well. It's a famously, tough level where you have scores of heavy-duty enemies pouring out of ther Goatshead and pounding you from every direction. It's vicious and deadly - but great fun.

Hi Iman74,
When I said "cheating" I meant using codes that makes me skip levels, get full ammo, get all weapons ...
Gamers know what I mean ...
But asking about how to finish a level isn't considered as cheating!

Of course that's not cheating!!

I always read walkthrus when a game is proving too difficult for me. And I don't think I'm cheating by doing so, just spoiling the game a lil'.

I tried to avoid cheating until the game becomes too difficult to beat. I then cheat, mainly because I play to have fun not to become frustrated.

I don't use cheats too, they spoil the game completely, games with cheats aren't fun.

Well, I think that cheats do ruin the game if you havn't beaten it, but if you have finished the game and just want to make it fun for longer, then cheats are often great.

Some cheats are fun, like big heads in fifa, but god mode or skip levels aren't fun at all.
If I couldn't finish the game and I want to know the end of the story,
I'll use cheats.

A game where death isn't feared isn't much of a game.

I think there are some sections of some games, when played at the highest difficulty levels, are nearly impossible. These difficulty settings are what I call "the developer's little joke".

In that case, a little ammo and health boost can just be enough to stop you dying for the 20th time and get thro to the next level.

I always felt this sort of cheat, if used sparingly, is acceptable. It doesn't spoil the game like using God Mode.

However, this whole arguement is like the "No Save Game" arguement. The "no save" brigade believe that being able to save anywhere makes any game too easy.
This is great if you can play games uninterupted for hours on end, but most of us have other things to do. Playing a level from the beginning ten times is not my idea of fun.

My answer to them is let everyone use their own free will. If you don't like saving, then don't save. Similarly, if you don't like cheating, then don't cheat.

Whoa! That reminds me of the STUPID save game feature in Diablo 2. The only way you could save your game was by exiting it! And when you resumed it you appeared back in town and were forced to REPLAY THE ENTIRE LEVEL! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! AND KILL ALL OF THE MONSTERS AGAIN!
Maybe the designers thought it will give you more XP points, but c'mon that wasn't funny at all. At least not for me.

I know diablo ii save system and i hate it! Another example of bad saving system is soul reaver 2, the game is nice and enjoyable but the saving system is horrible, you can't die and you can't save! If you die you'll shift to the spiritual world, gain some health and get back to the real world to continue the game, but you can't save! I have lots of things to do, and I can't spend the whole day playing the stupid level.

smokin Cheating is fun

sometimes

Yeah sometimes cheating can be fun. For instance in Motorcross Madness if everyone is using cheats it makes it harder and more fun. Sometimes in one person games cheating in Doom or Unreal is a blast. But cheating will never ever help you get good at the craft. For instance, Max Payne as easy as it is at first can get a bit tricky as you go and you are very tempted to cheat especially when your death level is really high and you are practically dragging your leg but stick it out...health pills is always around the corner. Oh sorry, lost track in the subject.

Basically my point is that cheating can be fun but don't always cheat, it defeats the purpose of a challenge.

Yes aym_7,

Soul Reaver 1 (I haven't played 2 yet) was a lovely game spoilt by the lack of saves. Whereas Shadowman (one of the weirdest, greatest, and under-rated games)
was a pleasure because you could save when you wanted.

Perhaps one of the best examples of a recent game spoilt by a lack of save was Project IGI. It could take over an hour to get to the end of a level only to be kicked back to the start. Great game but extemely irratating because of the lack of save.

However, I've read this will rectified in IGI 2.

And sometimes using cheats can be for added entertainment value. For instance, in Serious Sam in the the arena where about 50 headless kamakazees attack at once (the ones with bombs), if you use the /pleasefly cheat and hover over them, they will group together in a tight circle. Drop a bomb on them and they all blow up up at once-- makes a cool sound and a large splat of blood

However, back to reality, the noclip cheat is useful for exploring levels to see how they were put together. I refuse to play games without saves-- X-Wing Alliance is such a game.

I made that part without using cheats
I'm very excited about serious sam 2, I'm sure it will be as great as the first one.

The kamikazees aren't that hard on that level, its that kleers and marsh hoppers that get you -- its just amusing (to me at least) to blow up all the kamikazees at once. Last I heard, SS: SE should be out the first week of February-- Do you play cooperative online?

That reminds me when I tried to play Half-Life on line not so long ago. I spend an entire week downloading the mammoth patch, and after installing it, I logged on and never was able to join a game because of my slow connection. I wanted to smash the computer against a wall!!

YES! It's the terrible bug as a feature. I have hit the wall on X-Wing Alliance, even with the walkthrough. Frustrating.

I wasn't questioning use. I was affirming the over-all suckiness of not being able to save in the middle of a level, PARTICULARLY the game, X-Wing Alliance. The level is no good to me if I can't complete it, even with the walk-through.
See you in Sarnath.

Cheating can be fun...after you've completed the game honourably.
Selective, fun cheats can breath a bit of life into a game you've played a few times before.
I think Serious Sam would be a prime candidate for this. The odds are sooo outrageous, I sometimes thought that it would good fun to go back and really kick some butt.
After all, a lot of console games reward you with cheats for completing the game a within a certain time etc.
