bestselling fps ever?

Anybody know what the first person shooter that sold the most ever in pc games history is? Is it half-life, quake or doom? i'm just interested. Also if you can quote sales figures it would be appreciated

This is an easy one...

Half-Life for sure. Quake2, and 3 are very popular too but I know nothing about them. The thing about half-life that makes it so popular is all of the modifications for it...

They range from WWII mods to Futuristic laser battles...

Cool Hmmm Quake and Doom are the two classics of the pierod...

Well they were, especially Doom. Most 1st person shooters derive from Doom.

Well, I don't know what was the most sold. But I once read that the shareware version of DOOM was the piece of software installed in most machines all over the world, even more than DOS!

how can doom be installed on computers more than DOS when it needs DOS to run? the game came out in the DOS era and sold millions...

Well it's something I just read. Maybe I read it wrong, or maybe DOOM was being played in other OSes at the moment. I know that DOOM was translated to the PS, but I don't know if it was translated to some other PC OS, OS/2 perhaps?
